The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Audiology and Speech-Language Therapy is a dynamic undergraduate programme that prepares students to become skilled professionals in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of speech, language, and hearing disorders. Learning & Teaching Strategies

The BS in Audiology and Speech-Language Therapy (BS-ASLT) programme at CSLHS is designed around a modular, knowledge- and skill-based curriculum. It places strong emphasis on comprehensive theoretical instruction and intensive clinical training.

Students gain hands-on experience through structured clinical placements—including supervised observation and performance of clinical work—at the College of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences (CSLHS), affiliated hospitals, special education centres, and mainstream schools.

Programme Overview

Programme Focus: The Audiology and Speech-Language Therapy Bachelor of Science (BS) programme emphasises the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals experiencing speech, language, and hearing disorders. Students enrolled in this programme acquire a comprehensive understanding and proficiency in evaluating and managing a wide range of communication disorders. These disorders include articulation disorders, language delays, fluency disorders, voice disorders, paediatric communication disorders, adult neurogenic communication disorders, augmentative and alternative communication, as well as hearing impairments. Through coursework and practical training, students develop the necessary knowledge and skills to address the diverse needs of individuals with these communication challenges.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have completed a Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or equivalent 12th Grade Qualification and have obtained a minimum of 55% marks in any discipline.
  • Candidates who are waiting for their HSSC or equivalent 12th grade results are also eligible to apply on a provisional basis.

Prerequisites: 

  • Applicants should have studied science with Biology in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or Biology in equivalent 10th grade.
  • Applicants having a non-medical background should complete “Biology” as a foundation course in the zero semester.

Entrance Test:

  • Applicants are required to take entrance tests, conducted by the Ziauddin University Examination Department. 
  • The entrance test assesses the applicant’s cognitive abilities, problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and language proficiency and also knowledge in areas like biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and English language or communication sciences.

English Language Proficiency:

  • Applicants are required to demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English language.
  • The BS in Audiology and Speech-Language Therapy programme is conducted in English. English language proficiency is crucial in these fields, as effective communication with clients and colleagues is essential.

Personal Statement or Essay:

  • Applicants are required to submit a personal statement or essay detailing their interest in audiology and speech-language therapy, relevant experiences, and career goals. This provides an opportunity for applicants to showcase their passion and commitment to the field.

Interviews:

  • The interview may be conducted by faculty members or professionals in the fields of audiology and speech-language therapy. Speech-Language Therapist

Audiologist

Graduates can work in mainstream and special schools, assisting with the implementation of Individualised Education Programmes (IEPs), collaborating with teachers and parents, and supporting students with communication needs.
