The College of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences, Ziauddin University is proud to introduce a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology (MS SLP), following the success of the BS-SLT program which was upgraded to the BS ASLT in 2015.
The Graduates of the MS SLP program will teach and train undergraduates in the field of speech language pathology and conduct awareness and advocacy for the profession in Pakistan, upholding its professional ethics and dignity. They shall actively engage in research and development for construction of assessment and therapeutic tools that are culturally and linguistically appropriate for Pakistani population.
Candidates graduating with the MS SLP shall be eligible for clinical practice in hospital, and rehab settings as well as at mainstream and special schools, where in they shall independently screen, assess, evaluate, diagnose, and treat all disorders of speech, language, hearing, feeding and swallowing in children and adults as well as provide feedback and counseling to the caregivers, and other support personnel.
The graduates shall successfully utilize AAC tools (Alternative – Augmentative Communication) as and when required after complete assessment of the needs of the patient.
The graduates shall indulge in research and development nationally and internationally towards strengthening their own knowledge and skills as well as for establishing the profession in Pakistan.
The graduates shall develop indigenous tools of assessment and therapy that are culturally and linguistically appropriate to the Pakistani fabric and to the Indian sub-continent.
They shall be eligible to teach and train students in college/university settings.
Graduates shall also teach and train educationists and special educationists for identification and classroom management of children with speech, language, hearing and feeding disorders.
They shall teach and train parents for management of the child at home
The graduates shall work in a team of professionals whenever and wherever required, wherein other members of the team shall include, neurologists, pediatricians, otolaryngologists, maxillofacial surgeons, dentists, orthodontists, prosthodontists, psychologists, audiologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, special educationists, educationists, teachers’ aides and parents.
The MS Speech Language Pathology aims to inculcate and develop knowledge and skills to assess, diagnose and treat speech, language disorders in children and adults. Candidates graduating with the MS SLP shall be eligible for clinical practice in hospital, and rehab settings as well as at mainstream and special schools, where in they shall independently screen, assess, evaluate, diagnose, and treat all disorders of speech, language, hearing, feeding and swallowing in children and adults as well as provide feedback and counseling to the caregivers, and other support personnel. Students undertake 24 hours of course work in theory, 6 credit hours of clinical practicum which is 30 credit hours. The MS SLP program culminates with an addition of 6 credit hours research dissertation at the end of two years, and a research publication.
